I recently saw a commercial for Bounty paper towels and on this commercial a little boy decides to pour himself something to drink. His mom asked him if he would like some help and he declined. He poured the drink and when he turned around to put the drink back into the fridge, he knocked the glass over spilling the juice on the counter. He called for his mom and she came over and cleaned the mess up with a paper towel. When the commercial was over I was reminded that sometimes I am like that child when it comes to receiving help from God. How many of us are like that child? We think we can handle every situation on our own and we end up creating a mess. Then after the mess has been created we ask God for help.
God wants us to rely on him for everything. He is willing and ready to instruct and guide us through life. Today's scripture was one that stuck out to me while I was having my nightly nuggets with God. This scripture lets us know three things that God will do for us. He will; instruct us, counsel us, and watch over us. This verse also lets me know that God is my teacher, my counselor, and my protector. God wants to do all these things listed in Psalm 32:8, however we have to be willing to allow Him to do them. We can't be like the boy in the bounty commercial who didn't want the help from his mom. He thought he could handle the situation on his own, but instead created a mess. We have to be willing to acknowledge that we need God and want his help. I like Psalm 32:8 in the Amplified it says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you." God is not a push over, He will not violate our will. We have to give him access into our lives. I was told that only God can unscramble scrambled eggs. That is true, only God can fix our messes. However, that same God who can fix our mess can also instruct us on how not to create a mess.
I want to end with one of my favorite verses. I am going to give you The Message version ( I will have the KJV down at the bottom). This verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all." I call this passage of scripture "the remedy to avoid all life's issues". God gives us the answer, but it won't happen in our lives if we don't apply it. Let's depend on God for everything so we don't create a mess.
