To believe or not to believe...the choice is yours.

"Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." -John 6:29King James Version (KJV)

If I told you that the sky is red, would you believe me? No, you wouldn't because you know that sky is not red. It's actually blue. If I told you that fire is cold, would you believe me? No, because you know that fire is actually hot. We know that the sky is blue and fire is hot because we have been taught and through experience. We are convinced and accept that truth. No one can convince us other wise. When we believe in something or someone we can not be persuaded into believing something different. Let's take a look at the definitions of belief and believe according to Merriam-Webster:
Believe
  1. to consider to be true or honest
  2. to accept the word or evidence of
Belief
  1. a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
  2. something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion something believed
  3. conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence
Believing is an act of our will, it's a choice. We choose to believe or not to believe. No one forces us. Here's an example, I believe that God can do the impossible. I believe that and you can not convince me other wise. Now you might not believe that, but it's your choice to believe it or not. God has given each person on this earth free will. He has given us the power to make our own choices. Therefore, it is our choice to believe or not to. God does not force us to believe in His Son. He has left that choice up to us. He shows us that in John 6:29, Jesus didn't say "you have to believe" or "you need to believe". The amplified version of this scripture explains it best. It says,  "Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe [adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.” Jesus left the choosing up to us. Here are some scriptures on believing:
  • “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His[One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life." - John 3:16
  • "And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." -Matthew 21:12
  • Jesus said to him, "Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed." -John 20:29
  • And Jesus said to him, " 'If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes." -Mark 9:23
  • "For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him [whoever adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] will not be disappointed [in his expectations].” -Romans 10:11

Now what if I told you that Jesus died for all your sins. Would you believe me? Or what if I told you that salvation is available to all who accept Jesus. Would you believe? How about if I told you that healing is your right as a Christian. Would you believe? The choice is yours.
