Get full on Thanksgiving

With thanksgiving coming up on Thursday, I wanted to write about giving thanks. Every year families gather around the table with family, friends, and usually right before dinner each person says something that they are grateful/thankful for. However, Thanksgiving day should not be the only day that you are thankful. God instructs us as Christians to always be thankful. I love what 1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP says; "in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Jesus Christ." This scripture is a constant reminder for me. I am reminded that no matter what I may be facing in life, that my God is greater than any situation. Also, that I should ALWAYS be thankful to Him, because He is faithful, and that He is always with me. God commands us to be thankful. I have listed a few scriptures about being thankful & giving God thanks:

  • 1 Chronicles 16:34 - "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever."
  • Psalms 107:1 - "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever."
  • Psalms 118:1 - "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever."
  • Psalms 118:29 - "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever."
  • Psalms 136:1 - "O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever."
  • 1 Corinthians 15:57 - "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory though our Lord Jesus Christ."
  • 2 Corinthians 9:15 - "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift."
  • Colossians 3:15-17 - "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which ye also are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. An whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and Father by Him."
  • Colossians 4:2 (AMP) - "Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving."
Throughout the entire Bible, we are always reminded and commanded to give thanks and to be thankful. I was always told that "thanks makes room for more" & that is so true. Being thankful is not just saying "thank you" it's a heart attitude. When we have the attitude of thanksgiving, it makes room for God to bless us & use us in mighty ways. So remember to have an attitude of thanksgiving no matter what the situation is. Be grateful & watch what God can do.
