Who are you pleasing?

A couple months back I finished reading a book by Joyce Meyer's called "Approval Addiction". The book is about being addicted to approval from other people or "people pleasing" When I first started to read the book I thought it was a joke. I was like; "I don't know why I am reading this book". "I am not addicted to anything.", "This is a waste of time." Real SELFish, right?? Well, I was. Everything was I, I, I. Not long after, I read a chapter in the book and saw myself in the words she wrote. I was speechless! So speechless that I felt compelled to start over beginning with chapter one and read everything again. I read the book through different eyes. The Holy Spirit knew what I needed, even though I didn't receive it at first. Many people today are addicted to pleasing other people and they don't even know it. I didn't. All I knew was that if I did not please someone I would get this instant feeling of guilt. Or when I did do something to please someone I would say to myself, "why did you do that?" We as Christians are to please God and God ONLY. Colossians 1:10 (AMP) says, "so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts]". This scripture tells us that we are only to please God. The Bible also tells us about pleasing men, "Am I now [a]trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ." -Galatians 1:10 (AMP) Every addiction or stronghold has a root. The root is something deeper, was it that high expectations were put on you as a child? Or maybe you were treated as if you were never good enough. You cannot address an issue without digging deep into the root cause of it. Seek God and He will help you dig up those roots that is causing you to be addicted to people pleasing. We as Christians are to live lives pleasing to God, that means everything that we say and do must please God. Society is never pleased with what we do. Think about it.....it seems like every other week there is a new "fad" that people go crazy over trying to please other people. HALLELUJAH GOD IS NOT A MAN!! We don't have to worry about Him starting a new fad, because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His Word is the instruction manual on how we can please Him. So who are you pleasing?

"I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all of your members an faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to the world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewing of your mind [by its new ideals and new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]." -Romans 12:1-2 (AMP)

Thank you for reading!
