What Did You Say?

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words." -Proverbs 18:21 (AMP)
Over the past couple of weeks I have been doing a self examination. Making sure that my life is in align with the Word of God. My prayer has been; "God show me ME. If there is anything in my life that does not align with your Word reveal it to me." Well, He did just that! One thing that the God highlighted is the words that I speak. I began to take inventory of the words that I speak.
In Proverbs 18: 21 it clearly tells us that the tiniest member of our body has the power to produce life or death! After reading this scripture I started to wonder what "life" words have I spoken. This scripture also tells us what will happen when we speak. "We will eat its fruit and bear the consequences." The consequences can be good or bad. For example: everyday that I wake up I say "Today is a great day!" And guess what? Everyday is, has been and will continue to be a great day! How many times have you said "today is not going to be a good day." Chances are your day went exactly the way you said it would be - A not so good day. Words have power and they produce what you say. If we want to see change in our lives and live the life God ordained for us to have, we need to be mindful of the words that come out of our mouths.

The Word of God is filled with promises and benefits. If we want to partake in these things we have to speak words of life in faith. Faith is key Matthew 17:20 tells us the power in having faith. I have listed below some "what to say"statements and some "what not to say" statements to help you begin to speak life into all situations.

No! Don’t say that.
Say this!
I am sick.
I am healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5)
I am broke.
I am rich. (Proverbs 10:22)
I am never getting married.
God I thank you for my future husband or future wife. (Genesis 2:18 ESV)
I can’t do that!
Yes I can…(Matthew 19:26)
Consider doing a self examination & ask yourself this question; "Are the words that I speak ones of life or death?" Thanks for reading!

It is not what goes into the mouth of a man that defiles and dishonors him, but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles and dishonors him.” -Matthew 15:11

  1. What a powerful post. Truly lives can be changed simply by the words we speak. God is waiting to turn lives around all we need to do is say what He says and believe. Thank you for the encouraging words and continue to let the Lord lead you.
